Released in 2023, A Tale of Tokyo is the fourth limited edition in Glenmorangie’s A Tale Of series. This expression was conceived by Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of whisky creation, whose extensive travels throughout Japan have fostered a long-standing fascination with the country. To craft this unique whisky, a portion was aged in Mizunara casks—Japanese oak that is both rare and highly prized for its influence on flavour—before being blended with whisky matured in sherry and bourbon casks. To mark the occasion, Glenmorangie collaborated with Japanese artist Akira Yamaguchi, who created the artwork for the bottle and packaging.
Nose: Powerfully herbal, with hints of toffee contrasted by incense and saddle soap, followed by a resinous note and a touch of cedar wood.
Palate: A peppery mouthfeel leads into notes of tangy oranges and bitter cherries alongside fennel and chewy oak.
Finish: Long and gently nutty, with hints of almond, mandarin, ground white pepper, and more wood resin.
