One of Diageo’s Special Releases of Scotch whisky for 2017
Blair Athol 23 year old, from Pitlochry in the Highlands. This is the first release of any kind from Blair Athol since 2003 and the first ever in the Special Releases series. Distilled in 1993, it was aged fully in sherry butts.
Region: Scotland – Highlands
Strength: 58.4% alc/vol
Nose: Strong sherry component with peppermint creams. Burnt toffee, Christmas spice, orange and sweetpea strike a good balance between sweet and savoury.
Palate: Toffee apples lead the way on the rich, firm palate, again without things getting too sweet. Some raisins in the tail.
Finish: Creamy with lingering plum, grapefruit squash and nettle notes, leading to a conclusion that is pungent but engaging.
